Art as Mindfulness

A mindful practice informs everything we do at Art at the Center.

By being fully present with young children we invite them to explore materials openly with support.  Parents and teachers get to share in the joy of discovery alongside our youngest artists.

As children get older, we begin to talk about idea generation and stages of the creative process.  Modeling mindfulness helps us to support children through frustration and to build persistence and creative confidence.

Our course offerings for adults are geared toward making as a mindful activity.  Our goal is to share art-making as a form of meditation and presence.  We find people say working with materials eases stress and allows them to be fully present in the moment.

This September, 2014 article from the Mount Vernon Gazette offers Art at the Center parents’ perspectives on Art as Mindfulness.
